Major Career Roles
Paolo was previously the Chief Executive Officer of ENI and the Chief Executive Officer at Pilkington.
He is Deputy Chairman of Rothschild & Co, Chairman of Giuliani S.p.A and Chairman of the football club A.C. Milan. He is also a Board member at Columbia Business School, New York, and Ingostrakh, a major Russian insurance company.
Paolo was Chief Executive Officer of ENI, an Italian multinational oil and gas company which is considered one of the seven “supermajor” oil companies in the world, from 2005 to 2014. Prior to this role Paolo was the Chief Executive Officer of Enel, one of the largest utilities internationally. Before Enel he worked at Pilkington, initially as President of Automotive Products and was appointed to Chief Executive Officer in May 1997, holding the post until May 2002. At the time Pilkington was the largest flat-glass producer in the world.
From 2000 to 2014 Paolo held a number of Non-Executive positions including; Deputy Chairman and Senior Independent Director at the London Stock Exchange Group plc, and Chairman of Alliance UniChem plc. Paolo has also been a member of the board of Generali Assicurazioni, ABN AMRO NV, BAE Systems plc, Veolia (Paris) and Alstom SA.
