Sir John Parker has been Chairman of Pennon Group plc and South West Water Ltd, Chairman of National Grid plc, Anglo American plc, Mondi, BVT Joint Venture, RMC Group plc and P&O plc. He has served as Chairman and CEO of both Harland & Wolff and Babcock International.
Sir John Parker is currently the Chairman of construction and engineering company Laing O’Rourke, a Non-Executive Director of Carnival Corp., a Senior Adviser to Spencer Stuart and a Visiting Fellow of the University of Oxford.
Sir John recently stepped down as the Chairman of Pennon Group plc and South West Water Ltd, his 6th FTSE 100 Chairmanship. He was on the Board of Airbus Group, a senior Non-Executive Director and Chair of the Court of the Bank of England, Deputy Chairman of DP World and President of the Royal Academy of Engineering.
Sir John has served as Non-Executive Director of the Industrial Development Board of Northern Ireland, British Coal Corp., GKN plc, BG plc and Brambles Industries plc.
He is widely recognised for his policy work on the value of diversity in the boardroom, having chaired the Government’s review on Ethnic Diversity on UK Boards in 2017.
His career has spanned the engineering, shipbuilding and defence industries, with some 25 years’ experience as CEO, including at Harland & Wolff and the Babcock International Group.
